Delightful Products

Built a little something

Hope everyone had a good 4th and happy Wednesday. I cooked some steaks over the weekend and by accident made them medium instead of medium rare. Been thinking about it since.

I know I said I was going to do 250/60/4 this week but I had a different idea so going to delay that another week. Don’t worry though, I have the company picked out already.

Delightful Products

I have long said that I believe AI has changed the way companies can built products. Not only can we build faster, but we can build incredibly delightful products for users. This means better time-to-value, a more customized feel, and higher retention rate.

I can explain 50 different ways that this is possible, but instead I thought I would just show you an example. Last night, I set out to solve a problem that I deal with on a weekly basis.

Context

I have been investing in the stock market since I was 14. My first stock was GoPro. I lost 95% of my money on that. Through the years I have day traded, tried to find penny stocks, done some algorithmic trading, and overanalyzed hundreds of companies. I once even toured a private jet in an effort to better understand the companies building them. Lost money on that investment too.

10 years later, turns out the best investment strategy was to just buy companies with great products that I use everyday. Amazon, Apple, Spotify, and Robinhood have been my best investments in my life.

As a builder and someone who loves product, that is my investment strategy nowadays. Find companies with great products, and invest in them. For example, a few months ago I saw a SaaS company, Snowflake, had 130% net revenue retention. This means their customers are consistently buying more and more products from the company, showing a love for the current product and trust in the overall business. Since I noticed this, the company is up 43%.

The Problem

Taking time to research these companies products is hard. It involves reading earnings transcripts, looking over slide decks, and reading twitter, reddit, and other forums. It would take me around 30 minutes to get a full analysis of a company.

The Solution

So, I build a solution that searches the internet and gives me context on a companies product and their customers. This process used to take me 30 minutes, now it is done in less than 30 seconds. To me, that is a delightful product experience.

I won’t explain anymore, just try it below. Please note, I built this in 3 hours.

Let me know what you think.
